Neil McNerney's Bio
I received my Master of Education degree in 1988 from James Madison University and my Post-Master's Certificate in Marriage and Family Therapy in 1994 from Virginia Tech.
From 1988 until 1995 I was an elementary school counselor for Fairfax County, VA where I gained a tremendous amount of skills on how to help children and families in stress. I began my private practice in 1995 at The Arbor Center, a dynamic group practice where I honed my skills as a therapist and learned from some of the best therapists in the area. Since 1999, I have practiced independently, focusing on issues with children, adolescents, and adults. Although I specialize in child / teen / family counseling, I have extensive experience in working with adults, especially in dealing with relationship and work-related issues. As a member of the faculty at Virginia Tech, I have served as a clinical supervisor at the Center for Family Services, where I provided live supervision for Master's level students. I am presently teaching a course in working with children and teens from a family perspective. As a part of my practice, I provide clinical consultation to a variety of agencies and individuals who are interested in being more effective in psychotherapy techniques. I provide licensure supervision to professionals seeking licensure as a licensed professional counselor and/or licensed marriage and family therapist. In addition, I have advanced training in helping victims of trauma recover quickly so they can get back to enjoying life. I am Level II EMDR certified, a trauma recovery technique that has helped many clients recover from difficult experiences and memories. Neil is a member of the following associations: |
